Our Commitment to Privacy

At SSH Assistant, we believe that privacy is a fundamental right. We are committed to protecting your personal information and being transparent about how we handle your data. This privacy policy explains how SSH Assistant collects, uses, and protects your information.

1. Data We Collect

1.1 Connection Profiles

SSH Assistant stores connection profiles on your device, including:

• Server hostnames or IP addresses
• Port numbers
• Usernames
• Connection names and groups

Storage: All connection profiles are stored locally on your Mac using UserDefaults or App Sandbox storage. They are never transmitted to our servers.

1.2 SSH Private Keys

SSH private keys are stored using macOS Keychain Services, which provides:

• Encryption at rest using your device's secure enclave
• Access only when your app is authorized
• Protection tied to your user account password

Important: We never have access to your SSH keys. They are stored entirely within your Mac's Keychain.

1.3 Connection Passwords

SSH connection passwords are stored in macOS Keychain, not in the app's data files. This provides the same security as Safari passwords and other sensitive credentials.

1.4 Crash Reports (Optional)

With your explicit consent, SSH Assistant may collect anonymous crash reports to help us improve app stability. These reports contain:

• Anonymous crash logs (no personal information)
• App version and macOS version
• Device type (Mac model identifier)

Optional: Crash reporting is disabled by default and requires your explicit consent to enable.

1.5 What We DON'T Collect

SSH Assistant does NOT collect:

• Your terminal session contents or commands
• Files transferred via SFTP
• Your IP address or location
• Usage analytics or telemetry
• Third-party advertising data
• Your server passwords or SSH keys

2. How We Use Your Data

2.1 Local Data Usage

All data stored by SSH Assistant is used exclusively for:

• Connecting to your configured SSH servers
• Displaying your connection history and profiles
• Managing your SSH keys for authentication
• Providing file transfer functionality

2.2 iCloud Sync (Optional)

If you enable iCloud sync:

• Connection profiles (excluding passwords) may sync across your devices
• Data is encrypted in transit and at rest using Apple's iCloud infrastructure
• You can disable this feature at any time in app settings

Note: SSH private keys and passwords are never synced via iCloud for security reasons.

3. Data Sharing

3.1 No Third-Party Sharing

SSH Assistant does NOT share your data with any third parties, including:

• Advertising companies
• Data brokers
• Analytics providers
• Any other third parties

3.2 Data Disclosure for Legal Reasons

We have no access to your data because it's stored locally on your device. In the unlikely event we receive a legal request for your data, we would be unable to provide it as we don't have access to it.

4. Data Security

4.1 App Sandbox

SSH Assistant runs in Apple's App Sandbox, which restricts the app's access to:

• Only the files and resources you explicitly grant access to
• Network access only for SSH/SFTP protocols
• No access to other apps or system files

4.2 Keychain Storage

Sensitive data (passwords, SSH keys) is stored using macOS Keychain:

• Encrypted with hardware-backed encryption
• Accessible only when you're logged in
• Protected by your user account password

4.3 Data Minimization

We follow the principle of data minimization:

• We collect only the data necessary for the app to function
• We don't collect data we don't need
• We delete data when you delete connections or the app

5. Your Rights & Choices

5.1 Data Access & Deletion

You have complete control over your data:

• Delete connections: Remove any connection profile from the app
• Delete all data: Delete the app to remove all stored data
• Export data: Export connection profiles via File > Export Connections

5.2 Keychain Management

SSH keys and passwords stored in Keychain can be managed via:

• Keychain Access app (search for "SSH Assistant")
• In-app SSH key management interface

5.3 Crash Reports

You can disable crash reporting at any time in app settings. This will not affect app functionality.

6. Children's Privacy

SSH Assistant is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by:

• Posting the new policy on our website
• Updating the "Effective Date" at the top of this policy

Continued use of SSH Assistant after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

9. Platform-Specific Information

9.1 macOS App Store Privacy

SSH Assistant is distributed through the Mac App Store and complies with Apple's App Store Review Guidelines, including:

• App Sandbox compliance
• No code execution outside the sandbox
• Secure keychain storage for sensitive data
• No third-party analytics or tracking

9.2 macOS Permissions

SSH Assistant requests the following macOS permissions:

• Network Client: Required for SSH/SFTP connections
• Keychain Access: Required to store SSH keys and passwords securely
• App Groups: For potential future app extensions
• iCloud (optional): For syncing connection profiles across devices
